Quest for the Semi Finals

The ladies were on the court at 4 p.m. warming up and preparing to begin their quest for advancement to the semi final round.  The day of rest was good for both Natalie and Jackie, and you could see it.  The match began on serve, we were up 3-2.  However, we got a little sloppy and it was soon 3 all.  Natalie started her service game with two double faults and we went down 3-4.

We easily broke Glatch to make it 4 all.  Won the next two games, including Nat's serve and took the set.  Started the second set slowly, down 1-2.

Was up 15-40 with Glatch serving but didn't put it away, so went down 2-4.    Then it was 4-3.  Getting sloppy, we went down 5-3.  With Jac serving duece....she serves a great big one to the outside on Asia.  Who returns to Nat at the net....who puts it away for the game, down 4-5.

Two missed backhand returns and two lolly pop strokes sets the opponents ups for the winners.  And so they took the set as well.  Tie breaker time......

Jackie begins with huge serve to Glatch, who returns ball into the net... 1-0 us...woot!  Jac misses a volley and now 1 all.  Natalie volleys a winner, hitting Glatch (who btw wasn't happy about it).  Up 2-1.

Big serve by Nat with a great put away volley by Jac, up 3-1.  Natalie serves to Asia, return goes long....up 4-1!  A new trend....taking control and staying on top....I like it!

Jackie returns Glatch's serve down the alley for the winner, up 5-1.

Great rally by both teams and Nat lobs opponents for the winner, up 6-1.

Another great volleying rally by both teams, Jac closes with a great volley winner, 7-1.  Followed by down the line winner Jackie.....up 8-1.

Not sure what happen to make it  9-1.....but it was....hahahah sorry!  Then Nat misses forehand down the line and Jac missed a volley and it is 9-3.

Big serve by Natalie and Glatch's return goes wide.....winner, winner!

And the quest to the semi finals has been completed.

"Our team" will play Bowell/Slatter (GBR), today at 4 p.m.

Until then .....I will be awaiting to watch that lil yellow ball.....love and blessings ....Sherry

Today's Doubles....

Pluskota/Cako vs. Lumken/Sotnelova was today's doubles match up.  The opponents continued to put pressure on "our team", however we were able to go up 3-2 in the first set.  Jackie served us to 5-4, with a little help from Natalie and her volleys at the net.  Breaking the other team to win the set.

We went down 1-2 in the second set.  Able to win two games in a row thanks to Natalie serving an awesome "ace" up the "T" and Jackie putting it away at the net.  Winning two in  a row despite a terrible "let" call by the chair umpire.  Sorry, but I have to tell ya bout it.  Opponents are serving, the first serve goes into the net, rolls to the side...  into the alley and is touching the net.  The second serve is good and the rally begins.  The ball is hit back and forth, both teams working a great point.  The ball has been hit maybe 10-12 times and the chairs calls "let".  Both teams ask where, and the chair points to the "first serve" ball left on the court by opponents.  Unbelievable!  The teams tell the chair it had been in that very same spot the entire point, he asks one of the line judges, he and all the line judges (that I looked at anyway) all shook their heads at the same time agreeing that the ball had been there.  HORRIBLE interruption of a great point and match by a chair umpire.  So very unfortunate indeed.  The point was replayed and Natalie put it away for the winner.

We went up 3-2 and then 5-4.  "Our team" was up 30-15, became sloppy and lost the game to go to five all.  Jackie served us to 6-5, we were sloppy the match was slow.  We could hear Jackie saying "this match is at turtle speed".....Nat's reply, "no dude, snail pace.....it is sooo slow it is snail pace".   So funny indeed.

Natalie and Jackie were able to break their opponents and match point was an opponents volley into the net.  Was nice to see them make the same mistake that we had way toooo many times this match.  The great news....winner, winner!

Thursday, yes.....Thursday......they will play the Mahammed/Glatch ranked 547.  Natalie and Jackie are ranked 588 for this tourney.  The opponents beat the #1 seeded team today to advance to play us.

I'll be watching that yellow bouncing ball and get back to you!  Love and Blessings....Sherry
