Woke up this morning and made our way to the court in this chilly weather. Yes chilly! It was 70 degrees all afternoon. Great day for some tennis.
Natalie went on the court sometime after 10am, and started the match off real strong. Despite the struggles from the opponent and terrible chair umpire, Natalie won the first set 6-2. Natalie had the chance to close the match when she was up 4-1 in the second set. But let me tell you, this chair umpire was missing calls, that should have been in our favor. When Natalie questioned him, his response was that he just couldn't see them. Natalie ended up losing the second set 4-6. Started the third and got up 3-0, but this young lady picked up her game and barely missed a shot. Natalie ended up losing 3-6 in the third set. Natalie played hard and had a chance to win, but could not over come the three opponents on the court (herself, her opponent, and the chair umpire).
Tough day, but we are clearing our heads and preparing for tomorrows doubles matches. Natalie and her partner Brooke Austin are fourth on after 9...which of course is 3:30ish. They will be playing Madeleine Kobelt (USA) and Ayaka Okuno (JPN) who are the two seeds. Natalie and Brooke aren't seeded because Brooke doesn't have a doubles ranking.
Time to eat some gummy worms and figure out the plan for the rest of the day.
Till next time...
